Engler Scholarships

The scholarship program is designed to invest in entrepreneurial talent. In 2017-18, 47 students earned Engler scholarships totaling $120,000. The scholarship awards range from renewable awards up to $8,000 to one-time awards of $1,000 or more. The online application form can be found here.

Eligibility

Engler scholarship students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an undergraduate student in the College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources (If you are currently a high school senior or planning to transfer from another college, please apply,  if you plan to declare a major in CASNR.)
  • Must have had FFA or 4-H experience previously.
  • Demonstrate a passion for entrepreneurship, have experience in business enterprises as an employee, owner, family member, FFA SAE project, or any number of other avenues that have stoked the fire in your belly for free enterprise.

Traits We Seek

  • Strong work ethic, accountability, risk taking, self-starting, creativity, innovation, results oriented, teamwork, tenacity, competitive drive, and resilience.

Process:

  • Complete the online application and submit to us by January 13, 2019 at midnight.
  • Semi-finalists will be notified on January 25.
  • Phone interviews will be conducted from January 30 through February 1.
  • Finalists will be notified on February 8th, as well as scholarship awards for those not advancing to the finals.
  • On campus interviews for finalists will be held March 12, 2019 and final awards offered by March 19, 2019.

Robin Coulter Lapaseotes Memorial Scholarship

In honor of the memory of founding advisory board member Robin Coulter Lapaseotes, $6,000.00 scholarships will be awarded annually to two students who meet the same criteria as the Engler Scholarship, with the additional requirement of having completed at least one year of study at UNL. Additionally, successful applicants will have demonstrated a deep commitment and capacity to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture upon graduation. The application and process is the same as described above.

Eligibility

Robin Coulter Lapaseotes Memorial Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources who have declared a minor in the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.
  • Demonstrate a passion for entrepreneurship, have experience in business enterprises as an employee, owner, family member, FFA SAE project, or any number of other avenues that have stoked the fire in your belly for free enterprise.

Traits We Seek

  • Strong work ethic, accountability, risk taking, self-starting, creativity, innovation, results oriented, teamwork, tenacity, competitive drive, and resilience.

Process:

  • Complete the online application and submit to us by January 13, 2019. Application will be available October 1, 2018.
  • Scholarship offers will be extended by the end of March, 2019.

International Study Stipend

Development of international experience and knowledge is highly recommended for the next generation of entrepreneurs in agriculture. To encourage undergraduate students to pursue these opportunities, the Engler program provides international scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 to successful applicants.

Eligibility

International Study Stipend applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Declared minor in the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.
  • Sophomore status or higher at the time of the international experience.
  • Program must be officially recognized as a study abroad or international study tour by the University of Nebraska and the Director of the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.
  • Students may only receive Engler financial assistance for one international experience.
  • Deadlines ‘“ October 15 for international experiences occurring in the spring semester; March 15 for experiences occurring during the summer session; and June 1 for experiences occurring in the fall semester.

Process:

  • Complete this application.
  • Submit the application before one of the following due dates: October 15 (for a spring semester abroad), by March 15 (for a summer session abroad) or by June 1 (for a fall semester abroad).
