Kitty Marie Designs

What is your story?

I took my first jewelry class with my mom back in 6th grade. I automatically fell in love with creating jewelry. We continued to take classes and my knowledge grew. I started to make my own designs and patterns and would wear something new every day. During high school, friends would buy my jewelry as gifts for their parents, and my Aunt would sell the jewelry at her flower shop. This is when I knew I could create a business out of my passion for creating and giving joy through jewelry. I took classes through Engler to really learn and understand how a business functions. From there, I was able to build my skills and knowledge to the point of launch. My business is all about creating joy through jewelry. Whether that is giving or receiving, a new piece can always bring joy, and bring an extra sparkle to an outfit.

What is your business?

https://www.etsy.com/shop/KittyMarieDesigns Kitty Marie Designs is a handmade jewelry design company. I sell unique pieces that are handwoven, along with custom designs. I started selling pieces back in high school, but I officially launched on Etsy in October 2020.

Who is your entrepreneurial inspiration OR biggest hero?

Walt Disney would have to be my biggest entrepreneurial inspiration. He never stopped dreaming, and never stopped doing. Throughout his life, he made so many advances and took so many risks that has led to Disney being the giant empire it is today.

What advice would you give to a student starting their entrepreneurial journey?

I know it is a hard journey, and an incredibly scary first step to take, but if you do not take that first step you will regret it later in life. Even if you fail, you can be proud that you tried.

What has been your favorite "Engler Experience" to date?

My favorite Engler Experience would have to be the Engler Trek. Being exposed to so many types of businesses and creative minds was priceless.

What has been the biggest hurdle or struggle you've dealt with in your entrepreneurial journey?

The biggest hurdle was not feeling ready to launch. I struggled with knowing when to launch and kept putting off my launch date because I was afraid of failing. I wish I would have taken the leap sooner and launched sooner than I did.
