What is your story?

Working with the strong agricultural foundation that I have developed in FFA and 4-H will assist me at the University of Nebraska where I plan to get an education to expand my knowledge of the beef and dairy industry, and increase my educational and social networks. When I started with my beef SAE project, I was the gopher, running errands, opening gates, cutting twine, carrying buckets and hauling bales. The operation has grown and we are renting more pasture to accommodate our herd size. My responsibilities have changed to filling the feed wagon, feeding grain, checking the cows during calving season and pulling calves if needed, making sure the newborn calves have sucked the cow, watching for sores and other health issues, knowing which medicine needs to be given as treatment, checking pasture fence, assisting with bull selection and marketing of the calves. I am a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association. This summer I will have the opportunity to intern with Dinklage Feedyards Inc. in Proctor, Colorado. My ten year plans are to finish my bachelors and go to graduate school in ruminate nutrition. Upon graduation I look to build a business of my own or work for a company as an entrepreneur. I also want to look at how I can, as a nutritionist, affect meat quality and shelf life. My FFA activities will provide me with the valuable skills and knowledge that I need to aide my professional career, help market my products, and allow me to make contributions back to my community.

What is your business?

I have my own beef cattle operation at home with a total of 30 pairs. As for my big business idea, I want to take a masters in nutrition to be used towards nutrition consulting, feed testing, and feed company and supply. I want to be able to assist in nutritional feeding of ruminate animals.

Who is your entrepreneurial inspiration OR biggest hero?

If your story were made into a movie, what actor/actress would portray you and why?

John Wayne, born as Marion Mitchell Morrison. I would want him to be the person to represent me because his character is known for being a leader and respected individual in the movie. Not only is he respected, but he also is a man that stands up for other people.

What advice would you give to a student starting their entrepreneurial journey?

If you are a student starting your entrepreneurial journey, I would tell you to read "The Dip" and develop the ability to work in a team. At some point every entrepreneurial person will work in a team, and knowing how to do this is essential.
