Major: Animal Science
Minor: Beef Industry Scholars and Engler Entrepreneurship
Business: I have not launched a business, but my mind is constantly thinking of what is next. My big passion is the beef industry and what we eat, specifically animal products. One of my dreams is to have a business where local products meet local consumers. I have a passion for both the producer and consumer.
What is your story?
I grew up on a family farm in California, and I can proudly say that is where my passion in agriculture and family business began. Now in college far from home, I am on a journey where I want to soak up everything around me, from going to class, going on study abroad trips, and learning from other individuals around me who all come from different places and backgrounds. Going on a study abroad trip to Argentina was one of the best things I have done so far in college. Learning about their agriculture industry has taught me things I didn't know before and only inspired me more to go on future study abroad trips. As I now know, I learn more by being in new places and traveling rather than what the classroom sometimes offers. I may not know exactly what I want to be doing or where I'll be in 5 or 10 years, but on my journey so far, I have learned I would love to be involved in my family's businesses.
Who is your entrepreneurial inspiration OR biggest hero?
My dad, in more ways than one! He is always pushing me to pursue where I have a passion and I have learned that from him. I don't know anyone who has more passion in his entrepreneurial adventures and farm life than him. I have seen how passion is relative in the success and happiness one can take from their own business.
If your story were made into a movie, what actor/actress would portray you and why?
I would want Carrie Underwood to portray me. Besides her beauty and her confidence, I have always been impressed by her even at the start of her career. She stand firms in her faith and is very inspiring from another female entrepreneurial standpoint. She has not let her fame take away from her family values as well.
What advice would you give to a student starting their entrepreneurial journey?
Find your passion and do not be hesitant to get started. Use all the resources around you. Never stop being curious or asking questions. Listen, listen and never stop listening. Life is all about chances, and you'll only lose what chance you don't take.
